The Open Frontier Version 2.2.0 (ALL)

WARNING: Before playing the ultra version of the pack, you must install Optifine. Follow the instructions below to do so!

The Open Frontier is a modpack designed from the ground up with content, creativity and lore in mind. That being said, you can build or do almost anything your heart desires. From climbing the largest mountain to battling dragons, building a civilization or simply exploring, this modpack has something for you! What will you do when your creativity runs wild? Only YOU can determine that!

Okay... So what is it really though?

An inquisitive one are we? Well heres a more technical explanation with some examples:

The Open Frontier was built with three principals in mind. To enhance Minecraft's vanilla mechanics as much as possible, to introduce and keep a medieval and lore-filled theme, and to add RPG elements to keep things special and interesting. So is that it? Glad you asked... No. Never. This modpack has insane world generation, amazing cave generation, new farming mechanics, an entire kingdom/civilization-building aspect, new places to explore, dragons to slay, tons of new building blocks, seasons, new mobs, better fish and fishing mechanics, curses, a better End dimension, more furniture, AND STILL MORE! Oh, and did I mention? Its all on 1.16.5! The latest version of Minecraft! phew I need a breather.

What Branch/Version Should I Use?

The "ultra" branch is the recommended one, however, if your computer is older (and lags while using the ultra branch), we recommend that you switch to the normal branch (any version without the "-ultra" tag appended to the end).

Normal Branch

The normal branch includes any version without the "-ultra" tag on the end of the version number. You may switch to this by going to "Modpack Options", selecing "Specific Version" and then choosing the highest version number without the "-ultra" tag.

Note: Automatic updates will not occur if you do this. Make sure to keep an eye on the "Updates" and "Changelog" tabs for updates. To update, simply go back to "Modpack Options" and then select the newer version without the "-ultra" tag.

Ultra Branch

Includes all of the features of the normal branch, maintaining backwards compatibility (for multiplayer and server play) with some visual and client-side tweaks that may impact performance and require a beefier computer. This branch requires that you install optifine for it to work properly:

Windows Installation

1. Click the install button for the modpack.
2. Click here to download the correct version of optifine.
3. Open a file exporer and go to %appdata%/.technic/modpacks/super-enhanced-default/mods.
4. Drag and drop the Optifine jar into the folder.
5. Launch the modpack and everything should work.
6. Have fun!

MacOS Installation

1. Click the install button for the modpack.
2. Click here to download the correct version of optifine.
3. Go to the following folder on your Mac by opening Finder, clicking the "Go" dropdown and selecting "Go To Folder". You can then input ~\Library\Application Support\technic\modpacks\super-enhanced-default\mods and hit the return key to enter the folder.
4. Drag and drop the Optifine jar into the folder.
5. Launch the modpack and everything should work.
6. Have fun!
